It is a true pleasure to highlight Daniel McCoy this week. McCoy is starting his 18th year as a professional educator.
“I never planned to be an educator,” he said. “The experience I gained through Community Education led me to the classroom.”
McCoy said he began working in the after-school programs during the fall semester of 1998. “Community Education was my first regular job,” he said. He continued working as a group leader and site supervisor at various before and after-school sites and summer programs while he pursued his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Western Kentucky University.
McCoy holds a special place in the agency’s history. He created Community Education’s first website in 2001.
Since his time with Community Education, McCoy began teaching in Ohio County in 2006 and has held various positions, including special education teacher, technology resource teacher, and preschool coordinator.
He also earned his education specialist degree from the University of the Cumberlands during that time.
This fall McCoy begins a new chapter in his education career as he begins a position teaching special education at Bowling Green High School.
McCoy values his time at Community Education and is proudest of the lasting friendships he made there.
The Rockport, Ky. native lives in Bowling Green with his wife, Leslie, and son, William.
“William just completed his first year of kindergarten and [the Community Education] after-school at W.R. McNeill Elementary,” McCoy said.
It is wonderful to see a new McCoy generation involved with Community Education!
