Five questions with Jordan Wade Franklin, Library Media Specialist at Bowling Green Junior High School. A native of Bowling Green, Franklin has master’s degrees in Social Work, Exceptional Education, and Library Science.
What are you proudest of accomplishing while at Community Education? “It had to be running a successful Eagle ROC Camp. The camaraderie of the staff made the summer so much fun. Each staff member brought unique ideas to the camp to make it a one-of-a-kind experience. Kids were excited to be there daily, largely due to the staff members.”
What challenges did you face? “On the first day of our after-school program, the State Inspector showed up at one of my schools. I had never experienced anything like it before. Thankfully, Wes and Erin were there to help and offer solutions for the next time.”
What did you do after you left Community Education? “I taught elementary Special Education for five years before becoming a Librarian. I am in my 10th year as a Library Media Specialist and starting my 6th year at BGJHS.”
How did working at Community Education prepare you for the rest of your career? “Community Ed taught me so many things. I learned how to manage people and that the best working environments were places where we had fun. I loved working with Erin and Wes. We were a team that helped each other and had each other’s backs.”
Anything else you would like to share? “Some of my fondest memories are my daily chats with the office staff. Josh and Rhonda kept me laughing, Debi Wade Jordan was always ready with a witty comment, and Anne Grubbs was always willing to listen and offer advice when needed. Her heart for serving sticks with me to this day.”
Franklin’s family includes her husband, Demont, son, Maize, and dogs, Chipper and Judge.
