Former staff member, Ally Keltner hails from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Before joining Community Education, her experience in nurturing and guiding children was evident through her roles at Hillvue Heights Church teaching Sunday school, Wednesday night Bible Study, and helping to provide childcare at various church events, including concerts, special programs, and Divorce Care ministries. These early exchanges laid the foundation for future endeavors.
Keltner began pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education at Western Kentucky University while dedicating four years to Community Education from 2001 to 2004. During this time, she held several roles that highlighted her commitment and passion. She served as a group leader at Potter Gray for two years before transitioning to a site supervisor role at TC Cherry for an additional two years. Her involvement extended to the Super Summer Club, where she worked all four years as a teacher and group leader. In addition, she contributed to the programs at Natcher and Lost River Elementary schools.
She says her tenure at the agency left an indelible mark on her, allowing her to develop strong leadership skills through her interactions with school staff, along with Community Education administrative staff. She learned to communicate effectively, ensuring the programs ran smoothly for the benefit of children, parents, and the program itself.
One of Keltner’s proudest accomplishments during her time at Community Education was the lasting bonds she formed with the students she cared for. Some of those students, who are now adults with families of their own, remain in contact with her. Witnessing their growth into amazing young adults has been a source of pride.
When asked if there were specific challenges during her time at Community Education, Keltner recalled what unfolded after the 9/11 tragedy. Being responsible for students’ well-being, she had to navigate the delicate task of addressing their questions and fears while assuring them of their safety. Keltner stated this experience played a huge role in helping her to develop the skills needed to have those difficult conversations with children in the face of loss.
After leaving Community Education, Keltner suffered the loss of her father and was diagnosed with breast cancer. With her WKU educational journey on hold due to these difficulties, her career path was a bit uncertain. Proving she is a fighter both personally and professionally, she defeated her cancer and decided to enter the health field. For the past 12 years, she has been serving patients in Physician Services at Med Center ENT.
Keltner is a voracious reader, a pet lover, and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
