Kay-Dee Vales teaches biology at Warren East High School. Vales worked in the School-Age Program at Community Education for four years while studying at WKU to be a teacher.
We asked Vales how working at Community Education prepared her for the rest of her career. “It helped prepare me to handle almost any situation. From discussing with parents, teachers, and kids. For my classroom teaching, it made me more adaptable to student needs and even emergency situations.”
“If you are considering being a teacher, I highly recommend working at Community Education. Not only will it prepare you for your future classroom, but it will also give you multiple strategies you can use. If you do not want to become a teacher and just love working with kids and great people, then still apply. I absolutely loved all my coworkers and bosses. Erin and Jarrod are amazing and can make any environment super fun, but they also accomplish things.”
What are you proudest of accomplishing while at Community Education? “It gave me a lot of preparation for the day I got to be in my own classroom and work with kids. I loved working with kids and interacting with them and their parents. I currently teach at Warren East High School, where I am proud to have encountered multiple students that I have had through Community Education!”
“I cherish all the people I met in my four years at Community Ed. Seeing those students grow up and seeing them again makes my heart so happy! You are making a difference in this program, and I am proud to say I got to be a part of that!”
