ALL Hand Up Hand Back classes are suspended until further notice due to the COVID-19 crisis.
The program will follow the schools, so if schools are closed, they will be too. This includes evening classes at GEO International High School and all day programs at Christ Fellowship Church.
Hand Up, Hand Back began in 2016 with help from a United Way grant. It is an occupational skill development program that assists individuals meeting Federal Poverty Guidelines to increase their annual wages and/or educational level. The current target population is low-income refugees and immigrants (foreign-born) in Warren County, though any person is eligible to attend the program.
As of autumn 2018:
- 95 participants completed the program
- 37 participants started or continued educational programs
- enrolling in ESL (English as Second Language), English class, Job Corps program, etc.
- 35 participants changed their job status (most have seen an increase in income)
