Mark your calendars! June is just around the corner, and that means the 2011 American Bank & Trust/BG Kiwanis Club Stand for Children Day is quickly approaching. This year’s date: Thursday, June 16th, 9:00 ­ 11:30 a.m. (Rain date is Friday the 17th.) We will be back on the South Lawn at WKU. SO: let’s get ready to party and celebrate this great community we live in!

This is year #14, and plans are getting underway. We’re in the process of working on terrific prizes for the children, great entertainment, and lots of other surprises. We’ll have music, games, entertainment, and much more. And whether you are an agency, education-related entity, or business, this is a great place to connect with families and children in our community.

This year we will be conducting our children’s book drive during the same time period, so we will have a collection point for the books. Vendors and attendees will be encouraged to bring children’s books to be donated to children’s charities in the area. This is part of our ongoing mission to provide literacy opportunities throughout the community. We will also place books at American Bank & Trust branches during the time period. Exact dates will be announced later.

The overall theme this year is “Go Green.” We are encouraging everyone to have activities centered around environmentally friendly issues. Remember to keep the activities as hands-on as you possibly can. And we would like to ask that you do things that will not leave traces of our carbon footprint behind!

Snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the event, thanks to our supporters and sponsors. Tables and a couple of chairs are furnished by our wonderful partner, WKU. We do NOT have tents, but you are allowed to put up your own small canopy or pop up tent. We are NOT allowed to drive stakes into the ground, due to the irrigation system. (Vendors without tents will be allowed to set up in the shaded areas. Those with tents will set up along sidewalks and in open areas.) We look forward to seeing you June 16th. We’ll be ready for you to set up by 7:30 or 8:00 a.m.
